How Press Releases Improve SEO

With Facebook membership at more than 400 million worldwide and Twitter with more than 80 million registered users, businesses of all sizes are now looking at using social media as part of an effective SEO strategy, and for good reason. However, one of the easiest and most overlooked ways to improve SEO is with Press Releases. However, there are still some who are skeptical about the whole idea of the press release being used as an SEO strategy. And they have good reason, as the SEO press release has become associated with spam over the past few years due to shady free press release directories and even shadier marketing tactics, but that doesn’t mean a few bad apples have spoiled the whole bunch. Friday Favorites – Wedding Invitations

This post is the first post of my new Friday Favorites Series. My goal is to showcase some of my favorite designs every Friday. Each week I will choose a different category or style and share the most inspiring designs I stumble across. I hope you enjoy.

With my own wedding coming up next fall, I have probably already looked at about a dozen wedding related websites. The sites cover everything from themes to center pieces, to shower ideas etc… (Luckily we have decided we aren’t doing any of that). One of the things that did stand out to me though was some of the awesome designs for wedding invitations. It’s surprising to me that anyone would go with a standard design when there are such great designers out there who can create such awesome invitations for you. So without further ado here are some of the best I stumbled across: Read more »

The Use of White Space

White space is the absence of design elements. White space is the absence of content. Yet white space is a vital aspect of any good design.

Why is this? Through the proper use of white space it allows the important elements of a design to stand out and be front and center. As designers we often see a blank spot of the canvas as a place to do what we do best…design. However, by ignoring this first impulse of filling any empty areas of a design and taking a step back we then have the opportunity to really allow the design to come together. Read more »

Interview with Andrew Houle

Social networking can be one of the most important strategies for Freelancers to generate clients and new business leads. But I know that I can’t be alone with my reaction when I first heard about twitter back in 2007. I thought to myself “why in the world would anyone care what I am doing right now?” and vice versa. It may have been a shortsighted or close minded view but I thought it was a complete waste of time and I think a lot of people still carry that sentiment to this day. So can Twitter really help you as a designer? And How? Read more »

Interview with Jan Cavan

One of the questions we often hear is, “how can I become a Web designer?” The answer isn’t that simple.
